Spinato’s Baked Perfection

Ingredients

  • 17.6oz bag penne pasta
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2/3 cup chopped onions
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1lb ground beef or chicken
  • Pinch red pepper flakes
  • Pinch oregano
  • 14.5oz can diced tomatoes
  • 1 jar Spinato’s Marinara/Basilico
  • 3/4 cup parmesan cheese
  • 1 ½ cup mozzarella cheese
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Directions:

  • Bring 2 quarts salted water to a boil; add pasta and cook 8 – 10 minutes or until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large pan add 2 tbsp olive oil and heat. Add onions, sauté for 2 min., then add garlic. Saute for 1 min.
  • Add ground beef or chopped chicken, salt & pepper, red pepper flakes and oregano. Cook until brown.
  • Add canned tomatoes, ¼  cup parmesan cheese (reserving ½ cup for topping), ½ cup of mozzarella and 1 jar of Spinato’s sauce. Rinse jar with ¼ cup water and add to pan.
  • Now add the pasta and mix well. Place contents in a 13×9 greased baking dish. Top with remaining ½ cup parmesan and 1 cup of mozzarella. Sprinkle with oregano, cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
  • Remove from oven, sprinkle with fresh-cut basil (optional) and Enjoy!
